Bacalar Pontoon Boat Tour Review: Beach Club & Kayaks
Bacalar, Mexico, well, it’s almost a slice of paradise, and let me tell you, there’s just no finer way to drink it all in than from a pontoon boat. I had the chance to try out a 3-hour pontoon boat tour that includes some time at a beach club, plus the freedom to paddle around in kayaks. I’m going to give you the lowdown on my experience, talk about what was good, and point out a couple of things you might wanna keep in the back of your head before booking. This way, you’re set to have the greatest time ever in this dreamy location.

Setting Sail on the Lagoon of Seven Colors
The name “Lagoon of Seven Colors” isn’t just, sort of, marketing speak, so too, the moment you set eyes on Bacalar Lagoon, you quickly figure out where that comes from. You’ll observe blues transitioning into greens, and back to blues once more, all depending on the sunlight and the depth. It’s more or less something that has to be witnessed with your own eyes. Our tour began at a dock that’s easily reachable from the main bit of Bacalar, and straight away I could already feel the easygoing vibe of the place. Getting settled on the pontoon was easy as pie. So, there were other folks already there. That said, there was plenty of room for everyone to unwind. It felt very inviting as opposed to jam-packed like sardines. A friendly crew gave a quick safety spiel and a quick preview of what we might want to expect. It’s something that started our journey on a very relaxed note.
Cruising Through Turquoise Dreams
Once we pulled away from the dock, the enchantment just, almost, began. Gliding over the glassy surface, you can notice the various colors that the lagoon displays is pretty astonishing. That said, the guide gave us some great information along the way, talking a bit about the lagoon’s history. The cenotes in the area were of equal interest too, like the famed Cenote Negro, which we viewed from the boat. I mean, the story behind it, and what created it, is seriously cool. It made the views more interesting too. The boat generally went at a relaxed pace, and this gives you lots of time to get photographs and really take it all in. Actually, cold beverages were up for grabs on board, making the experience just a little better, more comfortable. This might well be just what I needed to deal with the heat.
Beach Club Bliss: Lunch, Lounging, and Lakeside Views
One part of this tour that’s worth some of your attention is the visit to a beach club, and, to be honest, this was something of a mixed bag for me. In a way, the location itself was lovely, giving a great vista of the lagoon and some shaded places to kick back in. We got some time here to have lunch, so too there was a buffet available. Still, I found it to be more or less a little basic, and drinks cost you extra. Despite this, the chance to just relax by the lagoon was really pleasurable. So, there were also hammocks swinging in the breeze. The lazy vibe sort of made it pretty worthwhile. That said, I reckon if you’re thinking about culinary highlights, you’re going to be much better off checking out some of Bacalar’s restaurants. These have menus boasting regional specialties instead. This is usually a step up from the beach club offerings.

Kayaking Adventures: Exploring Hidden Corners
Something of the high point for me had to be the kayaking. That said, getting to slip away from the boat and explore a little closer up, on my own steam, just felt wonderful. I spent a while drifting through the shallows. It was so easy to observe all sorts of fish, and the vegetation down below. A bit more to the point, being able to get to little areas that bigger boats just can’t reach was really brilliant. One suggestion: keep an eye on how long you’ve been out because that three hours flies by before you know it! This way, you won’t wind up being the one that keeps the rest of the tour hanging around.
Final Thoughts: Is This Tour For You?
So, should you sign up for this tour? It depends. If you just want to see Bacalar Lagoon from a relaxed vantage point, and would like to wrap a bit of kayaking into your experience, then most likely this trip fits the bill. The boat is really, quite comfortable, and the guides know a whole bunch. They can regale you with neat facts about the area. But keep in mind that the beach club grub isn’t anything worth bragging about. To be honest, look at it more as a spot to chillax and have a change of scene. If you are a foodie then most likely this will disappoint. This specific Bacalar Pontoon Boat Tour with Beach Club and Kayaks offers a splendid means by which to get to witness the well known Lagoon of Seven Colors. I recommend it, as long as you know ahead of time the things that are a little underwhelming.
