Why a Tuk-Tuk Tour Anyway?
Like your usual tourist, when I head to a spot for the first time, I often get pulled toward the big tours, you know? Like those bus tours everyone suggests. But this time around, Jaipur seemed very different, and, honestly, I was hunting for something a little more personal, and more exciting. So I gave it a long hard thought. Then it just came to me, very naturally. A tuk-tuk! In some respects, these little vehicles appear like a symbol of India, zipping here and there among the cars, and the cows, and basically everything you can imagine.
Doing the city tour thing on one of those, well, it sounded like quite the adventure. I was banking on seeing the usual tourist hot spots – Hawa Mahal, Amber Fort, City Palace, and very, very much more. I was, too, kind of hoping I would sneak off to places a regular car might not take me. Places you only hear of. So it sounded wonderful in a way.
What’s Included (and What’s Not)
Alright, so, prior to going with the tour, it’s something of a great idea to look closely at exactly what they give you for your cash. What is more, every tour might have very different things going for it. Most tours normally cover transportation for the entire day. And that’s great. But the entrance tickets to these sights are often another charge entirely, as are eats and drinks. Make a budget for the possible stuff. Just the usual stuff to factor. Your guide’s money, if you enjoy what they do, should too be included. It’s simply polite.
My Personal Experience: A Day on Three Wheels
Morning Chaos and Hawa Mahal’s Charm
Right at eight in the morning, like clockwork, my driver came knocking. Arjun was his name, and honestly, with a great smile and very much more enthusiasm. It’s quite cool when they look very joyful, as opposed to unhappy. Directly getting in, I instantly realised it, this wouldn’t exactly be one of your serene limousine rides. That I know. The town was already completely lively, so you heard the honking of horns, the random yells, all the stuff. The noise was just so real it became normal within minutes, basically.
We ended up at Hawa Mahal, and wow. Seeing that spot come more and more to view when coming from the principal road, it’s awesome, alright? Arjun, he basically had plenty of amazing stories about this location, you know, with all of the windows for the ladies from back then, that’s wonderful. So very helpful, he really put everything in perspective. I’m starting to like this. After fighting my way free of the gift sellers outside (they are there, I suggest you accept this immediately) I was on my way back into the tuk-tuk to proceed to place number two.
Exploring Amber Fort and Its Royal Past
Our second stop was Amber Fort. It’s like, come on, did you really see Jaipur unless you checked it out? The spot, just a little far out from Jaipur, suggests, yet, in a way, Arjun found all the ways to prevent too much traffic. Okay then, thumbs up so far. The fort! It really looks remarkable. So it looks like it’s up to something above you, very high on top of this mountain. This time, I did chose to use a guide so he could help me with the intricate pieces, like all the reflected mirrors and stories of the Maharajas. I would tip him something after all that knowledge, and get lunch. You probably should set aside the budget, if that looks to be your cup of chai.
After this one, Arjun requested if I was curious in Jaigarh Fort too, that, seemingly, towers even over the first fortress! We hit this one next and looked into their huge cannon factory there. That makes you feel very thankful for progress. Okay, fortress part is done. On we head!
City Palace and a Touch of Royalty
Back to the city now, next up, City Palace. So, the first two sights had great exteriors, this one has the same for the inside parts, as well. And for my camera to remember the experience too. You kind of see the blending of eras once inside; very traditional Rajasthani together with what I will loosely refer to as “Mughal”. As opposed to Hawa Mahal and the fortresses, this one basically remained the household for the last royalty.

As something different, there’s like this textiles portion where they display the Maharaja’s clothes. Huge, you might bet! Anyway, there really is a ton of history soaked into this spot.
Unexpected Stops: The Beauty of the Backstreets
Right, it isn’t everything in the travel brochures, alright? And you, also, could even choose them to go anywhere if you feel that something’s interesting. When visiting different regions, you really got to consider a market in the communities for that, isn’t it right? This time, we got to see numerous tiny little workshops where we found just so many regional stuff going on. To shop or otherwise!
Arjun, rather smartly, lead us via many small and thin paths that looked impossible for bigger automobiles! Which meant it was only us that went around there, awesome. Very much more of those made you realize what you will totally not find by visiting the spots shown on postcards, for sure!
The Good, the Bad, and the Tuk-Tuk
What I Loved
